Equus was listed down as one of TIME Magazine’s Top 47 things to see, hear and do this fall season. Equus is currently having its previews at the Broadhurst theatre and will have its regular opening on September 25. Here is what they have to say about Equus:

Harry Potter gets naked! Broadway is far too sophisticated to resort to such crass marketing, but that, frankly, was a big reason for the buzz swirling around the acclaimed 2007 London revival of Peter Schaffer’s 1973 play, now coming to New York. Daniel Radcliffe, the fast-growing-up star of the Harry Potter movies, launches his post-Hogwarts career playing the stable boy who has committed a horrific crime of violence. Richard Griffiths (another Harry Potter alum and Tony winner for The History Boys) is the psychiatrist who tries to find out why.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling and Warner Bros have won their case againt HP Lexicon author Steve Vander Ark and thereby halting the publication of a HP Lexicon Encyclopedia. In 68-page ruling, Judge Robert Patterson Jr. has said that,

“Plaintiffs have shown that the lexicon copies a sufficient quantity of the Harry Potter series to support a finding of substantial similarity between the Lexicon and Rowling’s novels.”

Aside from the halting of the Lexicon book, the plaintiffs were awarded with $6,750 in damages.

In a statement, JK Rowling has this to say:

“I took no pleasure at all in bringing legal action and am delighted that this issue has been resolved favorably. I went to court to uphold the right of authors everywhere to protect their own original work. The proposed book took an enormous amount of my work and added virtually no original commentary of its own.”

Despite the decision, Mr. Vander Ark is still a Potter fan and hopes to sit down and talk with the Potter author someday.

“I have been a huge fan of the Harry Potter series and Ms. Rowling for 10 years; that’s not going to change. We had a disagreement about the definition of a particular book. It was a legal disagreement. I would rather that it wasn’t personal.”
